Grass Roots

A child said What is the grass? fetching it to me with full hands;
How could I answer the child? I do not know what it is any more than he.

I guess it must be the flag of my disposition, out of hopeful green
stuff woven.

Or I guess it is the handkerchief of the Lord,
A scented gift and remembrancer designedly dropt,
Bearing the owner's name someway in the corners, that we may see
and remark, and say Whose?

Or I guess the grass is itself a child, the produced babe of the vegetation.

Or I guess it is a uniform hieroglyphic,
And it means, Sprouting alike in broad zones and narrow zones,
Growing among black folks as among white,
Kanuck, Tuckahoe, Congressman, Cuff, I give them the same, I
receive them the same.

And now it seems to me the beautiful uncut hair of graves.

"You don't know," he said, and began to smile. "O great sorcerer who brings the dead to life. You don't know."
"I know," the man in black said. "But I don't know... what."
"White light," the gunslinger repeated. "And then--a blade of grass. One single blade of grass that filled everything. And I was tiny. Infinitesimal."
"Grass." the man in black closed his eyes. His face looked drawn and haggard. "A blade of grass. Are you sure?"
"Yes." The gunsliger frowned. "But it was purple."

Why the Montreal Candiens Weren't Better Than the Washington Capitals

Fans of Montreal are getting defensive over claims that Halak won the series for them and that they were greatly outplayed. Well, the WERE outplayed!

Cammalleri scored an amazing 10 points to lead the Canadiens. He was a -4 for the series. Marc-Andre Beregeron was an embarassing -8!

In fact, there were only three players who were a plus for MOntreal: Ryan O'Byrne, Hal Gill, and PK Subban. THose three were each only a +1, and only Hal Gill played more than 4 games. Gomez, Gionta, Cammalleri, Markov, Plekanec, and Kostitsyn were a combined minus 16! THrow in Hamrlik and Bergeron and you have an amazing -28!

These aren't just random names. They are the stars of the Canadiens and they were Montreals top 8 scorers in the first round series against the Caps. Their top 8 scorers were a combined minus 28! How can anyone say that their goalie didn't get hot and steal the series for them? Washington threw 290 shots on goal in 7 games for an average of 41.4 shots/game. Plus Montreal lead the playoffs in shots blocked. All in all, it was an embarassing trouncing! If Washington had even just a bounce or two go their way, Montreal would have been toast.

But Habs fans are right. IT wasn't just Halak that won them the series. It was retarded f#$@ing luck that Washington couldn't get a single bounce their way while throwing so many shots at the net.

Checkmate.
